MLB PLAYER PROP BETS - SUNDAY'S PROPS

Our MLB Player Prop Bets are available for Sunday, May 5 and for today's slate, we're focusing on the below matchups:

For the above matchups, our experts have selected MLB Player Prop Bets on the below individuals:

  • Mets P Luis Severino
  • Dodgers P James Paxton
Luis Severino Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-145)

Severino has been effective this year, just in a different way. He's relying on ground balls (career-high GB%) and soft contact. Severino was basically a 2-pitch pitcher in his prime, but now he's going with a wide arsenal. He is currently throwing 6 pitches at least 8% of the time. And that can work! It's just not always ideal for strikeouts. His 21.7% K% is basically league average.

Severino's swinging strike rate is down to a career-low 8.7%. His 25% CSW% is the 2nd-worst mark of his career. The slider is still a good whiff pitch, and the sweeper isn't far behind, but he's only throwing them a combined 19.6% of the time. Severino's slider is only his 4th-most used pitch.

The Rays are 12th in K% vs. RHP at 23.4%, but today's projected lineup only has a 19.5% K% against righties since the start of 2023. It should be a contact-oriented group. Severino hasn't topped 5 Ks in his last 4 starts.

James Paxton Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-130)

Somehow we keep getting chances to fade Paxton. I can't believe he's survived this long in the LAD rotation.

Paxton's velocity remains down on all of his pitches. He has a ghastly 15:22 K:BB. He's 12th percentile in hard-hit rate. Paxton's ERA is somehow 3.51, but his xERA is 6.19. His swinging strike rate (7.6%) and CSW% (24.6%) are both career lows, while his 13.2% K% is among the lowest in the league (6th percentile).

Atlanta picked up where they left off against lefties, hitting them hard once again. They're 15th in K% vs. LHP. It's just hard to imagine this going well for Paxton.

What Are MLB Prop Bets?

MLB props are wagers that can be placed on individual players or events that occur during a baseball game. These bets are typically more specific than traditional bets on the outcome of the game, such as the moneyline, over-under or run-line wagers.

Some common MLB prop bets include:

  • Player Props: These bets focus on individual players' performance, such as how many hits a batter will have, how many strikeouts a pitcher will record, or how many stolen bases a baserunner will attempt.
  • Game & Team Props: These bets focus on specific events that could happen during a game, such as which team will score first, how many total runs will be scored, or whether there will be a home run in the first inning.

Prop bets can be a fun and exciting way to add some variety to your MLB betting. They can also be a good way to target specific players or teams that you have an edge on.

Here is an example of a MLB prop bet:

Will Aaron Judge hit a home run in today's game against the Astros?

This bet is a yes/no proposition, and the odds will depend on how likely the sportsbook thinks it is that Judge will hit a home run. If you think Judge is likely to go deep, you would bet "yes" and collect your winnings if he does hit a home run. If you think he is unlikely to hit a home run, you would bet "no" and collect your winnings if he does not hit a home run.

In the space of gambling and sports betting as a whole, bankroll management is a controversial topic. NFL props are easy to get carried away with, so keep in mind you should always bet within your means and set aside money you are comfortable losing.
